Kwang Sia started as one of the pioneer record chain stores in Singapore in the 1960s. The founder of the company, Mr. Ang Keng Hui also produced several local Mandarin and English hit albums under the Swan label. Kwang Sia Record stores were must visit for music fans in the 60s and 70s to stay current with the pop charts and to purchase their favourite records.
In the 70s, Kwang Sia identified the burgeoning demand for consumer electronics products in the surrounding South-east Asian countries and began to distribute Panasonic radio and cassette players and VCRs to Indonesia. Over the last 3 decades, we have extended the brand portfolio and product range to include Sony, Canon and JVC. The company is currently distributing consumer electronics in the Russian market through a related company.
Kwang Sia diversified its business focus in the late 80s, setting up a Fashion Division to address the new buying behaviour of the emerging middle class. This group of consumers sought after designer fashion apparel to complement their increasing affluent lifestyle. Since then, the company represents a select portfolio of European fashion labels in Singapore. One of these labels that have enjoyed consistent success over the years is Hugo Boss and today, we are proud that Hugo Boss is the leading men's designer brand in the local market.
Going forward, the vision of the company is to continue to effectively identify new trends in the market and to respond when we find that our skill sets and expertise allow us to exploit the opportunities. We believe in representing and partnering with the best brands and players in the lifestyle industry and we bring with us a successful track record of developing the local market for brand owners. Kwang Sia will also continue to develop our core business in the distribution and retailing of consumer electronics products and designer fashion labels through the selective addition of new brands and expansion in new markets.
